B a r w i c k P a r k
O b e l i s k

For some reason my Ordnance Survey map appears to show this feature on the opposite side of the road to its true location, later maps are correct though. It is in fact on the right hand side of the A37 road, if you approach from Dorchester, opposite the junction of the road running SW to Sutton Bingham. Unfortunately it is hard to say anything charitable about it really, obelisks are either tall, slender, objects of beauty like Cherhill Obelisk (Wiltshire) or rather plain and uninteresting affairs, of which this is a good example of the latter.
Garden Rockery
It is of course built of the same material as the other three, and has the same 'garden rockery' or rubble-like quality to it. Although sitting on a substantial base it is not particularly tall, maybe 40 to 50 foot as an estimate.
Visiting:-
As already mentioned, the map and geographical reality, may not agree. When I visited I parked my motorbike on the nearby road junction, and scrambled up the bank, but the legality of:-
[1] parking on the junction (obviously impracticable for a car)
[2] and also of gaining access
......are both questionable, the road itself incidentally, being very fast at this point, with no pavement available.
