Situated in Wentworth Gardens, this is said to have been the home for some unfortunate bears. Most likely an attraction for the visitors to Wentworth who unless they had extensive travel experience, would never have seen such a creatures.
However entertaining it was for the visitor, it was not such good luck for the hapless bears.
The pit is thought to have been designed early in the nineteenth century. The door lintel though is Jacobean and was thought to have originally been made for Wentworth Woodhouse, and dates to around 1630.
