This was built around the same period as the grotto, though it most likely was a banqueting hall according to Headley & Meulenkamp, the title of 'Temple' coming from its appearance no doubt.
It has also seen service as a home for two gamekeepers, then the resident park-keeper, and now administration staff are using the lower floor. Restoration work was carried out in 1997.
Nowadays the only evidence that remains of all the work and wealth that must have been invested in the original estate is the grotto, the temple above, and the magnificent entrance gates, that are Grade II listed.
